The overwhelming pressure to change during new years
75 hard. 10k steps. Daily pages. Skincare routines. Glow ups. Creator era. What else do we need to take note of and change?
We’re a good two weeks into 2025 and I already feel like I’m falling behind…of course when there’s an influx of people announcing their new habits, fitness challenges, and daily progress on every platform that exists, it’s hard not to feel like it.
Vision boards, habit trackers, and "new year, new me" declarations fill every scroll I make. And here I am, just finished my 2024 review and 2025 planning a couple days ago (also posted a YouTube video about it). I’m still easing into January without a perfectly crafted master plan – and you know what? That's okay.
Thankfully, I was reminded earlier this year that meaningful change doesn't operate on social media's timeline.
Think about it – why do we put so much pressure on January 1st to be the magical transformation portal? The beauty of personal growth is that it's, well, personal. Whether you start a new habit on January 5th, March 23rd, or random Tuesday in August, what matters is that you're moving forward in a way that feels authentic to you.
Remember those people posting their 2025 vision boards back in November? They're on their timeline. You're on yours. And that's exactly how it should be. Real, lasting change isn't about jumping on every trending challenge or forcing yourself into someone else's ideal routine. It's about listening to your own rhythm and making intentional choices that align with your life.
So if you're feeling that resistance, consider it your inner wisdom asking you to slow down and check in with what you actually want to change – not what TikTok or Instagram is telling you to transform. Some days, that might mean taking small steps toward a goal. Other days, it might mean maintaining what you've already built. Both are forms of progress.
After all, we're writing our own stories here, not competing in some imaginary race to transformation.
And spoiler alert: there's no deadline for becoming a better version of yourself. :)
